Release of OrgVue v2.10
We are delighted to announce the release of OrgVue v2.10 to the OrgVue Demo environment on 9th December 2013, and to the Live environment by 23rd December 2013.
The new release offers major improvements in Data Handling, History, and Surveys along with ongoing improvements in interaction, security, usability and performance. A new Kanban perspective has also been added to the Pivot view
“Painting with data”
OrgVue continues to improve the intuitiveness of interacting with data.
- Data can be edited by ‘dragging’ nodes onto the colour control
- Data can be edited in the filter
- The Pivot View gives you the option to drag whole columns of nodes, groups of nodes or individual nodes, and to specify values when cleansing data by drag-and-drop:
- Linking can now be done by drag and drop on the filter control
- Nodes can now be cloned – useful when replicating content of a dataset
- Undo: Reverting changes – wholesale, for individual changes or via the column headers on the worksheet
- The parking lot
The parking lot is the first in a series of advances in intuitive interaction with data. Nodes can now be put one-by-one or group-by-group onto a new parking lot panel on the right hand side of the screen and can then all be addressed at once. For example, you can re-parent them all; tag them for a specific training course, or correct all of their job titles to a standard definition.
History
- You can now run a report on the history of a particular metric for a set of nodes
- You can get a report on aggregate history: the total rollup of a measure by a dimension. For example: A count of employees by pay level (as below); Total cost of a department over time; Average performance of managers over time, coloured by gender…
Interaction improvements
- Administrators and owners of a dataset will now see a recent activity list displayed in a panel on the right hand side
- Fit to width
- Scrollbars – now allow you to move much faster to the bottom of the canvas
- Full screen option
- Collapse up all panels to maximise expression bar
- Asynchronous rendering of the dashboards – allowing dashboards that render many charts to do so progressively. An example is shown below:
- Faster loading of views via ‘lazy loading’ of calculated dimensions or measures only when they are needed
- Chart controls can now offer labels both within a stack column and outside a column
- The PDF legend now handles long labels better, reducing the chance of the legend overwriting the image.
- OrgVue allows registration of your custom colour palettes on a tenant-by-tenant basis. Please contact support@orgvue.com if you wish to use this feature as a script must be registered by your tenant administrator.
- Percentage distribution is now an option for view in pivot tab
Kanban view
The Kanban view is used by the OrgVue team to manage its own work priority lists. It allows you to organise to-do lists for the team, and allocate them to particular people. Items can be positioned up and down the list according to priorities, and flowed through from idea to completion. Benefits of the Kanban list are that it is:
- Free with OrgVue
- Keeps all the team’s actions in one place
- Fits within a hierarchy of objectives to show how actions support overall aims
- Allows clear prioritisation
- Supports progress reporting
- Allows history tracking and identification of process bottlenecks
Security improvements
- A dataset owner or admin can download a full audit log of dataset changes over time (accessed via right click)
- Reminder of date and time of last log-in, to help users identify identity theft
- ‘Remember me’ change: only the username and default tenant now stored. (Password no longer stored)
- Encryption at rest on desktop and encryption in transmission both continue to be provided to all clients. Further encryption can now be offered on the server as an optional extra for clients.
New expressions
- “Links for” feature – will become the recommended default Links syntax and relationship. “Links for” allows the user to specify which dataset type (tab) is being addressed by a link. Although a dataset with multiple links can still only be ‘live-linked’ to one other dataset at a time, the ‘Links For’ connection allows the dataset to update only those links from the actively linked dataset.
- For example:
node.linksfor(“ROLES”).to
will return all roles to which the current node has been linked.
- For example:
- When you have a default value which is an expression, if you give that default value the suffix “!!”, when you create a node, that expression is evaluated and its value is persisted. This feature is particularly useful when you wish to access data which is calculated via an expression within linked datasets. It is also a good optimisation for expressions which are not dependent upon data filters, and we therefore recommend this mode is always used by preference. What if the expression needs to be re-evaluated on filtering or on data changes? In this case, use of the double splash “!!” in combination with the inherited flag will cause the expression to be re-evaluated and the new values to be persisted.
Surveys
- Image capture
Images can now be requested as part of a survey. So you can invite your team to load up their organisation (with their preferred photos) into OrgVue. This also works on webforms, and the image can come from the webcam or from file.
